Filler Episode Game Description
Mika Tanabe fixes the robot on Iron Dawn Hayate. In nine episodes she has had eleven lines, and seven of them were "Whoa." Now the hero has quit, the posters have shipped and a nervous man on a monitor wants to know who else is on this show. Every choice pulls two numbers apart: RATINGS, up in the corner of the screen, and HEART, which nobody at the network is measuring. When the ratings fall the picture really does get cheaper. Backgrounds become one still on a reused pan, then flat colour with off-model faces and mouths that only open and shut, then a pencil storyboard with notes to somebody called Sato.
Three episodes, about fifteen minutes a run, and three endings, each with its own last picture and its own music. Episode 11 is the filler, one room and a pot of curry, and it may be the most human hour on television. Ride the numbers and you can be renewed for a second season. Keep saying the true thing and you can get cancelled. Do both and something comes down through the clouds. Episodes you have reached stay open in the menu, so you can go back and take the other road.
A cel-shaded anime with painted summer skies, drawn entirely in code, with an original opening theme whose hook comes back as a sad piano. It is funny until it isn't. Runs on desktop and mobile, in landscape and portrait.
How to play Filler Episode?
Phone: tap to read on, tap an option to choose. The toolbar has the log, auto, skip, rewind and pause.
Desktop: click or press Space to read on, 1 to 9 to choose, L for the log, A for auto, S for skip, P to pause.
Goal: reach all three endings. Your choices move RATINGS and HEART, and those two numbers decide which ones open.
Tip: the show gets cheaper when ratings drop. Sometimes that is exactly where you want to be.
