Inaudible Game Description
You are a freelance typist paid forty pence a line. A solicitor sends three cassettes found in a wall, the voices of three grown-up siblings clearing out their dead mother's house, and asks for your best guess wherever you can't make out a word. So you guess. Type "cellar" where the tape goes to hiss and they remember a cellar, and two scenes later there is a door in your third floor hallway. Press REW to listen again and you find stranger words, and a very polite man who is not supposed to be on the tape, and who comes a little closer every time you go back.
Four chapters, about fourteen minutes a run, and three endings: type what you are told, leave everything out, or find the one line that was there all along. Anyone you stop writing down stops being there. Your own transcript changes when you scroll back to read it.
Dread rather than gore, funny and warm until it isn't, drawn in two tones like a 1990 word processor, with a score of tape hiss, deck clunks and one tune with a gap in it. Headphones help. Runs on desktop and mobile, in landscape and portrait.
How to play Inaudible?
Phone: tap to carry on, tap a word or a line to choose it, tap REW to rewind.
Desktop: click or press Space to carry on, click or press 1, 2, 3 to choose.
Goal: finish the transcript, and decide what goes on the last line.
Tip: REW costs nothing you can see, but something in your hallway keeps count. And it's worth reading back over what you typed.
