What are bowling games?

For thousands of years, people have been entertaining by rolling balls at miniature pins. Archaeologists have found early bowling sets hidden in Ancient Egyptian ruins, and just about every society since then has played some version of the game.Today, the world’s most popular bowling variant is tenpin. Players take turns bowling their ball toward a triangular arrangement of balls at the end of a long, smooth wooden lane. Knock them all down at the same time and you score a strike. There’s just enough luck involved that everyone can have fun, but enough skill that you’ll get better the more you practise. Small variations in friction can make a difference between a perfect strike every time, and a perfect strike just 90% of the time. The sport is easy to recreate in a digital environment, and there have been plenty of bowling games and mini-games over the years. When the Wii and Kinect motion-sensitive hardware was released, it was bowling mini-games that proved the most memorable. Super Monkey Ball and its sequels also had bowling mini-games built-in.What if you’re looking to complete a bowling session but you don’t have access to a real bowling alley? Our range of quality HTML5 games will allow you to play a few rounds without working up a sweat. Like all of the entries in the Gamepix library, they’re free to play, and they’ll run on any platform with a web browser, without the need for downloads or installations. Things you always find in Bowling games Among the greatest strengths of bowling games are their simplicity. You’re presented with a lane with pins at the other end, and tasked with propelling the bowling ball towards them. Points are awarded based on how many you successfully topple. In some cases, scoring is based on the classic bowling scoring system; in others, you’ll get more simplified results. Traditionally, a strike gets you 10 points, with the total of the following two rolls added to the score for that frame. Note that this doesn’t always mean the next two frames. In this way, it’s possible to rack up 30 points for a frame – if you score a strike on one frame and then a strike in the next two frames, that’s 30 points. Do this for the entire game and you’ll get 300 points. A spare is half a strike – it comes when a player manages to knock over all the pins on the second attempt. A spare gives you extra points for the next roll – so you’d better make sure you score highly on the first. On either side of each lane is a gutter. If the ball falls in there, it travels to the very end of the lane without knocking down any pins. This is to prevent players from simply smashing the ball along the lane without any concern for accuracy. That’s not what bowling’s about – so aim carefully, and strike those pins square and true! GamePix’s Collection of Bowling games Beach Bowling 3D is a bowling game set on an exotic beach, with palm trees on either side of the lane! To play, use the mouse – click the button to grab hold of the ball, and pull back to pull the ball back. Push forward and release at the same time, and you can apply some spin with a little lateral movement. If you’re playing on a touchscreen rather than a desktop, things get a little more intuitive. To score a strike, you’ll need to hit the first three pins from the right angle, which generally means spinning. Just like a real bowling alley, the slipperiness of the surface makes getting consistent results really tricky – but this isn’t a simulation, and the physics don’t change over the course of the game; it’s a fun arcade version of the bowling experience, and one that you’ll need to practice relentlessly to perfect. In this version of the game, there are just three frames to play across rather than 10 – perfect for those looking for a quick dose of bowling action rather than a protracted experience. The difficulty ramps up as you progress from level to level, so you’ll need to bring your best performance if you want to succeed. If the beach setting isn’t for you, then you might consider Classic Bowling as an alternative. As the name might suggest, this is a game that takes place in a traditional 10-pin bowling alley. Rather than using the mouse, you’ll be using the keyboard. Gameplay takes place in stages – first, position the bowler using the arrow keys (or by clicking the on-screen ones). Next, dial in the appropriate level of power – press space when the bar is near its maximum. Finally, you can decide how much spin you’d like to apply. Time the button press so that the arrow points in the desired direction. This is a game where it’s quite easy to score successive strikes if you figure out the right strategy. Just make sure that your bowler is slightly off-center, and that you get just a little bit of spin so that the ball curves in. If you’re unlucky, you’ll get a split rather than a strike – this is where the best players are able to set themselves apart, by striking a glancing blow on a single pin and knocking it into the other one. If you’re really unlucky, you’ll get a seven-10 split, where it’s the rearmost two pins that are left standing. In this instance, it’s usually best to simply blast the ball at one pin and ignore the other one entirely. Like all great bowling games, there’s strategy as well as skill involved!
