The GamePix blog’s colum HTML5 Rockstars starts the new year with an interview to Walter Cossu aka Tricko, co-founder and lead developer of the indie game studio Random Developers. Let’s hear what Tricko wants to share with us.
Hello Tricko, would you mind introducing yourself to the readers of the GamePix blog?
Hi guys, I’m Walter Cossu! I am co-founder of DiXidiasoft and I work as Web Developer, HTML5 game developer, Project Manager and Lead Developer. I work with a lot of tools but my favourite one is Construct 2 by Scirra.
Why did you decide to enter the world of HTML5 game development?
Because I love the idea behind crossplatform games and I think that HTML5 is the right way.
So, about your projects, can you tell us some behind-the-scenes stuff on their development?
You are a great bux fixer, is that right?
I didn’t make specific schools on game development or anything like that. So I always had to study on my own. I’m not leading in any particular field, but the saying “do things alone” (excluding working with DiXidiasoft and other occasional collaborations) I think has given me the right level of knowledge that will allow me to be able to work on multiple aspects in the development process.
You find yourself studying graphics, programming and everything related to the development of a videogame, then having nice overviews of your project. Obviously there are natural talents and talents which come out with time…I always classify myself in the second category, and being one of those who “get along” I often do more harm than anything else, but it’s by making a lot of damage that now I have a fast view on the matter, and almost everytime I manage to find the source of the problem.
Care to share any tips on trying to make HTML5 mobile games with the devs reading this?
The “3 P” rule: Prototype, Prototype, Prototype.
A working protoType, is ( ALMOST ) a game.
As I always say: The game is complete, now I have to develop it.
What does the future hold in store for you? Are you planning to launch new games soon? Any anticipation? C’mon, don’t be shy!
I recently lost all my files, so I find myself doing new projects and restoring the old ones, perhaps now I will focus on making them better and better with the experience I gradually accumulated. My time is spent almost entirely on “The Steampunk League” and on other cool projects with GamePix.
Since you just talked about it, as one of the founders of the indie team DiXidiasoft, what can you tell us about your new exciting game “The Steampunk League”?
“The Steampunk League” was recently approved on Steam. It’s a 3D isometric action platformer set in an alternative Victorian Age, revolving around the story of Nikola Tesla and his eternal rival Thomas Edison. Currently we are at a crucial stage of the development and we are working hard to try to bring the game to a level of quality that is beyond our limits. I am very grateful to all the team members. Every day they work hard and each of them believes in the project! I can just say that it will be a good game, trust me!
Tell us a funny story on something that happened while developing your games.
One of the first games that I developed with Construct2 was Cubenoid. The overall development took about six months. Recently, however, due to a failure of my pc, I lost all my works.
Now, rebuilding Cubenoid will take me less than a month. While learning how to use software, things are done in a certain way. As knowledge increases, it turns out that those same things, can be made in a simpler way!
And lastly, would you tell us how you felt about this experience with the GamePix team?
